VPNs – Protecting the Internet

It is amazing to think that there are so many people out there that are confident in the security and privacy of what they are doing online. However, in a world where we are monitored by millions of CCTV cameras, where GPS in our phones gives up our current location wherever we are, and where people can literally use Google Maps to see where we live, is it really any surprise to learn that nothing about the internet is private, safe, or secure?

The good news is that there is a way to protect the internet, or what you are specifically doing on it and this is via a VPN. As Croatians will tell you, a VPN zastita na internetu which broadly translates as ‘protects the internet’ will give you the ability to have far anonymity when online.

These are virtual private networks of computers that you can connect to that will keep your traffic and IP address completely secure. As long as the VPN provider does what it says and keeps its network completely secure, you will be able to surf the net in complete privacy.

Why is Online Privacy Important?

Do you really want sniffers, apps, websites, and software to be able to track who you are, where you’re from, and what you’re doing online? The data that can be collected from your internet activity will lead to targetted ads, the potential of hacking, or even your entire identity being stolen. Besides that, we deserve privacy right? Not that we get it in any other aspect of our lives.

While we should accept that our privacy is something that will always be attacked, this does not mean that we shouldn’t try and do something about it. We should always be taking whatever steps to keep our lives private whether this is turning off the GPS on our phones or in our car, keeping our landlines unlisted, or using a VPN.

Other Benefits of a VPN

Of course, while privacy is a major benefit of using a VPN provider, you’ll find that there are plenty of others as well.

  • Better Security – Your traffic and data are encrypted which makes it almost impossible for hackers to get their hands on it.

  • Better Performance – Many VPN networks will actually get your traffic to the desired destination far quicker than standard servers.

  • Circumvent Geo-Restrictions – Want to watch a Netflix movie that is only available in another country? A VPN will allow you to do so as you can use an IP address of a computer on the network to access the content.

When you add those benefits on top of the far superior privacy you will be getting when surfing the internet, you’ll see straight away just why they are so popular. You’ll find other benefits as you use them as well.

How Much Does a VPN Cost?

We think that you will actually be quite surprised at just how cheap a good quality VPN can be. If you sign up for one, you will normally get a cheaper monthly subscription for the longer you sign up for. This could be for as little as a couple of dollars a month for a years subscription which is great value for money. Even just a single month will not cost you much more than $5.

We do advise that you avoid free VPNs though unless you are just seeing how they work. Privacy and security are not anywhere near as good on a VPN that is free to use – as you might expect considering they are not getting any money from you.
